چکیده
BACKGROUND This study aimed to evaluate the accuracy of two imaging methods in detecting the apical pathology in endodontically treated teeth. MATERIAL AND METHODS A clinical examination from a sample of 156 teeth of patients treated by students of masters in endodontics at the Care Center of the Faculty of Dentistry at St. Joseph University, Beirut was done after 5 years of follow-up. Periradicular digital radiographs and a cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT)scans were taken and analyzed statistically using both the Exact Fisher tests and McNemar tests. RESULTS The prevalence of lesions was significantly higher with CBCT (34.8%), whereas for digital radiography (13.8%). The CBCT was revealed more precise to identify periapical lesions. As for the clinical success, the rate was 82.5%. CONCLUSION Within the limitations of the present study, CBCT was more reliable in detecting periapical lesions compared with digital periapical radiographs.

A Comparative Study of Diagnostic Accuracy of Cone Beam Computed Tomography and Intra Oral Digital Radiography Phosphor Storage Plates in Detecting Strip Perforation in Endodontically-Treated Teeth
Background and purpose: Perforation impairs the prognosis of endodontic treatments, so, timely and accurate diagnosis is important. For this purpose, various radiographic diagnostic tools have been studied to select the method that has the least complications and helps in making the most accurate diagnosis. This study aimed to compare the accuracy of cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) and int...

OBJECTIVES The aim of the present study was to compare the accuracy of intraoral digital periapical radiography and cone beam computed tomography in the detection of periapical radiolucencies in endodontically treated teeth. MATERIAL AND METHODS Radiographic images (cone beam computed tomography [CBCT] scans and digital periapical radiography [PR] images) from 60 patients, achieved from Septe...
متن کاملComparison of Diagnostic Accuracy of Cone Beam Computed Tomography and Digital Radiography for Detection of Vertical Root Fractures with and without Gutta Percha
Objective: Diagnosis of vertical root fractures (VRFs) is critical in endodontics which most of the times occurs in endodontically treated teeth with root canal fillings such as gutta percha. Despite Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) has significantly enhanced image quality compared to digital radiography (DR) which aid the diagnosis, artifacts has remained as a problem in VRF detection . ...
متن کاملDiagnostic Value of Cone-Beam Computed Tomography and Periapical Radiography In Detection of Vertical Root Fracture
INTRODUCTION Vertical root fracture (VRF) is the longitudinal fracture of the root in endodontically treated teeth. Considering the limitations of two-dimensional radiographic images in detection of VRF and introduction of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT), this study was designed to find the sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of CBCT and periapical (PA) radiography in detection of VRFs. ...

BACKGROUND Current technological advances have allowed application of different study designs and techniques for investigation of dental anatomy. Some clinical studies have provided evidence that Cone Beam computed tomography (CBCT) scanning is an important resource in assessment of root canal systems notably to identify MB2 canals in maxillary molars as CBCT scans allow in vivo dental investig...
